  • noone should be judging anyone
  • My judgement says not -- one in the same.
  • Many misunderstand the verse saying judge not or be judged taking it to mean not to judge at all; it means not to judge hypocritically as in not seeing our own faults and criticize someone doing or having an attitude the same as you. Jesus did not say we should never make a judgment about right and wrong.

I'd have to look up the address and the exact wording but I'm pretty sure it says judge not lest ye be judged and whatever measure ye mete shall be measured unto you again. Which I think means whatever measurement you use to judge others is the same measurement God's going to use to judge you . Thank you for your comment.

And this is a direct quote from Jesus or one of the third-person accounts which makes up the bulk of the Bible? Do all agree with you interpretation? Appreciate the pertinent verses. Thank you.

You're welcome to you both Linda and dumdum :) God is the one who gives me the words to say by way of His speaking to my spirit and media about God's word.

It's in Matthew 7 The Sermon on the Mount the words were spoken by Jesus here they are as recorded in the King James version: "1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." I couldn't answer for how other people interpret what they read. I can only tell you how I interpret it and what I believe.
  • My niece accused me of judging her when I emailed a reply to her about something when I only left out the Bible verse to what I said I sent the verse after that and nobody else considered what I said to be judging. She used the judge not or be judged and then judged me for being married twice. I told her it caused me anguish and she never said she was sorry. Then this past year she got married a second time. She is so afraid someone will judge her that she is like hurry up and judge them first. I did not even try to go to her second wedding. Because of her not apologizing and I did not want to got to a fake wedding. She told me her first wedding I went to was not real and she got married for real after that. I am not a Mormon so I don't count in HER church.

You do count both to God AND to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! I have had non-member friends who were helped by The Church! Even one who never once set foot in The Church! . Also we're commanded to forgive everyone whether they apologize or not. I pray you can work on that for your well-being not for her sake.

I forgave her long ago. I was answering your question again.

According to the Bible we are to anger slowly and forgive quickly. But she angers very fast and takes her 3 to 6 months to forgive. She was mad at me for 6 months and never told me why.
  • Posting answers to religious questions via the scriptures is not being judgemental...others can do that. It comes back to whether or not a person believes in what the Bible has to say...
  • Linda, anyone told you that you ask too many questions?
  • Anyone should have the right to judge how another person treats them. It's part of survival in a society. If a person is outwardly judgmental, judge them accordingly and stay away from them. Otherwise, they will likely hurt you. If someone has hurt you, judge them accordingly, because they will likely do it again. That's just my advise though, so judge it accordingly.

You didn't answer the question. Its not about whether or not you have a right to judge, only that doing so is no more or less judgemental than judging someone else for being 'self righteous'.

The way your question is worded makes a strong case that it's rhetorical.
  • Matthew 7 1“Do not judge, or you will be judged. 2For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while there is still a beam in your own eye? 5You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. It also states - 6 Do not give dogs what is holy; do not throw your pearls before swine. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

I don't like your bible. I prefer the KJV. It doesn't say do not judge. It says if you do you will be judged. There's a difference. Also I'm very familiar with the chapter. But the question was "Is judging the self-righteous any less judgmental than being self-righteous?" In other words, judging the self righteous is just as judgmental as being self righteous.

KJV - "Judge not," that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? It says the same thing in both, ie you will be measured by the same judgement you place on others. This is Gods measuring stick in all things, same as the Lord's Prayer, "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." I do normally go for the KJV, because of the removal of Christ from many of the passages of the NIV, and it not being an exact translation, but in this instance I see no difference
  • Why must we stop judging others? For one thing, our authority is limited. James pointedly asks: “Who are you to be judging your neighbor?” James 4:12; Romans 14:1-4 In addition, our sinful nature can so easily render our judgments unfair. Many attitudes and motives including prejudice, injured pride, jealousy, and self-righteousness can distort the way we see fellow humans. We have further limitations, and reflecting on these should restrain us from being quick to find fault with others. We cannot read hearts; nor can we know all the personal circumstances of others. If we really appreciate how merciful God is, we will not be inclined to judge our spiritual brothers and sisters. How could we possibly understand them as well as our heavenly Father does? No wonder Jesus warned us to stop judging that we may not be judged.
  • It is a sign of complete insecurity, and insecurities live that life more than the one who does it does. All I know is that a whole new world opened up when I gave up judging most anything, especially other humans. Change is rare, but it does happen; for most people, it is a cycle of every 7 years they change a bit.

You judged me and you don't even know me!
    • wiseacre
Oh, come on, we all have insecurities, and I simply said what it was to it all. So yeah, forgive me for judging a bit there. wink wink.
