Merlin of king Arthur's court is/was a very famous one. 9/22/23

Merlin is probably the most famous in English-speaking culture. Surprisingly, Taliesin is much less famous. (Extremely interesting legends surrounding Taliesin, compared to Merlin.) In some ancient tales Merlin was a student of Taliesin. Schmendrick the Magician also deserves mention as one of the most famous wizards in English-speaking culture.

2/18/2025, Gandalf the Grey from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. He is my favorite wizard who became Gandalf the White in The Lord of the Rings when he defeated Balrog in The Fellowship of the Ring. His White title represents spiritual transcendence.
